Chloris (nymph)

In the Greek Mythology, Chloris (in Greek old χλωρις / Khlôris ) is a nymph islands Fortunées (today the Canaries). It is called Flore by the Romains.

Zéphyr liked it, charms it and made its wife of it, preserving it in the glare of youth and giving him the empire of the flowers. Their hymen was celebrated in May and the poets, by describing the seasons, do not forget to give a place to these two husbands in the procession of Spring. One lends to the couple a son, Carpos.

Flora was particularly adored at the Sabins which transported this worship to Rome, where it was celebrated at the time of the floral Jeux.

Iconography

It is represented, in company of Zéphyr, by Botticelli in Spring and the Venus Birth .
