Chlamydoselachus anguineus
The shark-lizard ( Chlamydoselachus anguineus ) is a shark with the aspect of an eel and the primitive characters.
Description
The six slits branchiales which it carries on both sides of the head identify it like a shark. Its dorsal fin small and is very deferred behind. The anal fin is important. The caudal one is very asymmetrical, the almost non-existent upper part. The teeth are small, tricuspides (in the shape of three-pronged fork) and very sharp-edged. This species can reach 2 m length.
Biology
Chlamydoselachus anguineus is a species which one can describe as alive fossil, which did not change a million years since. It has a surface of very broad but discontinuous distribution. The most frequent catches relate to water of the Japanese archipelago. The food mode is mainly containing squids of the great depths. Species depths, the shark-lizard meets between 120 and 1280 m basic, seldom on the surface. It is an ovoviviparous species with the slow reproduction with ranges from 2 to 12 small. Certain specimens were caught with the Palangre but the shark-lizards living are rare. In filming is exceptional.The January 23rd 2007, the personnel of the marine park of Awashima with Shizuoka, in the south of Tokyo, was alerted by Pêcheur S and could film an alive specimen identified like a female Chlamydoselachus anguineus .
