History of the principality

The history of Chitrâl begins with the arrival from the Tibetans at the 8th century, followed by the Chinese in 750 which will be demolished by the Arab S.

Chitrâl becomes a kingdom unified at the 14th century under Shâh Nasir Rais. The dynasty of the Rays is completed in 1570. In 1585, Shâh Katur, which is claimed descendant of Gengis Khan installs its dynasty and founds the principality of Chitrâl.

In 1895 during the seat of the fort of Chitrâl which lasts one month, Nizam-Al-Molk is assassinated by his/her half-brother.

In 1947, Mehtar remains in load of the internal businesses, the government of Pakistan being represented by a Political Agent. However, in 1954, Chitrâl know a revolt against Mehtar and the Political Agent takes the control of the area. It is in 1969 that the principality of Chitrâl is integrated formally into the Pakistan, in the district of Malakand of the Province of the Border of the North-West.
