Chimalpopoca

Chimalpopoca (“Shield smoking” in Nahuatl) is the third Souverain of the Aztec people . He is the son and successor of Huitzilihuitl in 1417. It is under its reign that relations between the Tépanèques, suzerains of the Aztèques, and the latter are degraded. The new king of the Tépanèques, Maxclatl, and uncle de Chimalpopocamal laid out towards the Aztec ones, overpowers those of increasingly important taxes. In 1426 Chimalpopoca is made prisoner and taken along to Azcapotzalco the capital of Maxclatl. It is exhibé in a cage and ends up committing suicide by hanging in 1427. It is his/her uncle Itzcoatl who succeeds to him.
