The group recorded only demonstrations until in 1996, year when Alexi sought a clavierist, which it will find in excellent the Janne Wirman. After that, and with the assistance of the young bass player Henkka " Blacksmith" Seppälä and of the second guitarist Alexander Kuoppala, Inearthed changes name and takes off that of Children Bodom . The name is inspired by a lake in Finland, famous for triple murder made in 1960 on the banks of the lake. This murder remains today the greatest mystery of the Finnish legal history. After discrete a first album, Something Wild produces by Spinefarm Records , the publisher, interested by the potential of business success by the mixture of Melodic Power Metal and Death Metal, with a small key the Middle Ages . The exit of the album thus made a great national exit in Finland, which will help much the group at its beginnings and to obtain a popularity. Something Wild is a completely new kind and generated many other groups, in particular Kalmah and Norther.
A little later in 1997, Children off Bodom signs at Nuclear Blast.
In 1999 leaves their second album, Hatebreeder , which reveals them with the whole world and lance their pursuits commercial definitively. This album is regarded as being the top of the group of share its varied, melody rates/rhythms of guitar and Pop, the keyboard of Janne Wirman more and more used, of the solos, although little developed, impressive for the public. Many songs of Hatebreeder are known as the songs fetishes of Children off Bodom.Leur styles remains always the same one as the album which precedes it, put aside that the keyboard there is more present, by songs, and that the style medieval takes a place a little more important there, as in the song Bed Of Razors
They confirm at the same time a competition with another group Sonata Arctica, generated by the two guitarists soloists of these groups.
Children off Bodom also carries out this year there a round with the Japan with In Flames and Sinergy (the second group D' Alexi Laiho), where the group records its album live, " Tokyo Warhearts ". According to Alexi, the recording of this album live was the best way for all the members of the groups of exceeding themselves and of improving. The group thus sets out again of Japan inflated with block.
The following year, in 2001, the group leaves Follow the Reaper which also knows a big hit in particular with from now on celebrates song Hate Me! . The style of the album resembles mainly that of Something Wild , although Hatebreeter also leaves a trace there. The technique of the composition remains the same one, although the soloists employ methods which seek to impress the listeners easily. Moreover, following this method, the quantity of fan increases incredibly and during the two following years, Children off Bodom made of great rounds in Europe and to the E. - U..

The group embarks then in a new world tour. But during this feverish round, Alexander Kuoppala left the group. This album pushes even further the change started by Children off Bodom after Follow the Reaper and Hate Crew Deathroll . Those approach even more of Metal, especially in the song Are You Dead Yet . The technical side is less present but the melodies partially yielded the place to heavier fronts. The keyboard makes less melodies but is always affirmed through environment.
