Children of Ramsès II

Ramsès {{II}} had many children - approximately fifty wire and fifty-three girls - and an impressive longevity for the time; it thus buried a great number of its sons in the tomb KV5, in the east of the Vallée of the Kings, which was dedicated to them.

Wire of Ramsès

  1. Amenherkhepshef ( Amon is with its strong arm ), oldest son of Néfertari, prince heir until his death in year 25 to the reign to Ramsès;

  2. Ramessou ( Born from Re ), oldest son of Iset-nofret, prince heir enters years 25 and 50 of the reign of Ramsès;
  3. Parêherouenemef ( Re is with its right-hand man ), second wire of Néfertari. It appears on the representations of the triumph of the battles of Qadesh and in the small temple of Abou Simbel. It forever be prince heir, being deceased before his older brothers;
  4. Khâemouaset ( Appeared with Thèbes ), second wire of Iset-nofret, “the first Egyptologist”, prince heir until 55 to the reign to Ramsès;
  5. Mentou-her-khepeshef, or Mentouherouenemef ( Montou is with its right-hand man ), mentioned on a Stèle with Bubastis. A statue the representative is with Copenhagen. It took part in the Siège of Dapour;
  6. Nebenkharu;
  7. Méryamon, or Ramsès-Méryamon ( Beloved of Amon ), present at the triumph and the seat; it is buried in tomb KV5 where fragments of its vases canopes were discovered;
  8. Amonemouia, or Sethemouia ( Amon/Seth in the Divine boat ), also appeared with Dapour. It changed its name of Amonemouia into Sethemouia at the same time as his/her older brother changed to it his;
  9. Séthi, also present at Qadesh and Dapour; it is buried in tomb KV5 - where two of its vases canopes were discovered - around year 53 of the reign of Ramsès. On its funerary equipment, its name is Sutiy . It is possible that it is identical to another Séthi, mentioned on a ostracon who is now with the Egyptian Musée of Cairo;
  10. Sétepenrê ( Chosen by Re ), present also at Dapour;
  11. Méryrê (Re Beloved), wire of Néfertari. It is probably deceased very young and one of his/her brothers (18th on the list of the princes) was called like him;
  12. Horherouenemef ( Horus is with its right-hand man );
  13. Mérenptah ( Beloved of Ptah ), wire of Iset-nofret, prince heir as from year 55 to the reign to Ramsès, then Pharaon;
  14. Amenhotep ( Amon is content );
  15. Itamon ( Amon is his/her father );
  16. Méryatoum ( Beloved of Atoum ), wire of Néfertari, Large priest of Héliopolis;
  17. Nebentaneb/Nebtaneb ( Lord of all the grounds );

  20. Sénakhtenamon ( Amon returns it extremely ) probably resided at Memphis, as it is indicated by a votive plate belonging to its Amenmose servant;

  31. Mérymontou ( Beloved of Montou ), represented in Wadi be-Sebua and Abydos;
  32. Neben, mentioned on a Ostracon in Cairo;
  33. avoids, 20th on the procession of the princes with Abydos, which shows a light difference in their order;
  34. Ramsès-Maâtptah ( Justice of Ptah ), only known by a letter, in which a servant of the palate, Meryotef, the reprimand;
  35. Ramsès-Méretmirê, 48e on the procession of Wadi be-Sebua;
  36. Ramsès-Méryamon-Neboueben, known by the inscriptions on its Sarcophagus;
  37. Ramsès-Méryastarté ( Beloved of Astarté ), 26e on the procession of the princes with Abydos;
  38. Ramsès-Mérymaât ( Beloved of Maât ), 25e on the procession of the princes with Abydos;
  39. Ramsès-Méryseth ( Beloved of Seth ), exposed on a block of stone coming from the Ramesséum, re-used with Médinet Habou. It is the 23e on the procession of the princes with Abydos and its name is on a stele, a lintel and a door case;
  40. Ramsès-Paitnetjer, known thanks to a ostracon in Cairo;
  41. Ramsès-Siatoum ( Wire of Atoum ), 19th on the procession of the princes with Abydos;
  42. Ramsès-Sikhépri, 24e on the procession of the princes with Abydos;
  43. (Ramsès) - Ouserkhépesh ( energetic Arm ), 22e on the procession of the princes with Abydos;
  44. Ramsès-Ouserpehti, mentioned on a statue with Memphis and a commemorative plaque;
  45. Seshnesuen and Sethemhir, mentioned on a ostracon in Cairo;
  46. emnakht and Shepsemiunu, exposed on blocks of stone coming from the Ramesséum, re-used with Médinet Habou. emnakht is also mentioned in the embrasure of a door;
  47. Wermaa, mentioned on a ostracon in Cairo.

Girls of Ramsès

It is difficult to determine the order of birth of the girls following the example that of wire. The ten first generally always appear in the same order. Many of these princesses are known for us only by Abydos and ostraca. The six elder ones have statues at the entry of the Large temple of Abou Simbel.

  1. Bentanat ( Girl of Anat ), girl of Iset-nofret, then Large royal wife;

  2. Baketmout ( Maidservant of Must ), probably girl of Néfertari;
  3. Néfertari, probably girl of the queen Néfertari mother and undoubtedly woman of Amon-her-khépeshef;
  4. Mérytamon ( Beloved of Amon ), girl of Néfertari, then Large royal wife. She is probably best known girls of Ramsès;
  5. Nebettaouy ( Main of the Two Grounds ), girl of Néfertari, then Large royal wife;
  6. Iset-nofret ( the beauty of Isis ), girl of Iset-nofret. She is known thanks to a letter in which two singers worry about her health. It is possible that she is Iset-nofret, woman of Mérenptah, but it is as possible as the woman of Mérenptah is a girl of Khaemouaset, also called Iset-nofret;
  7. Henouttaouy ( Main of the Two Grounds ), girl of Néfertari;
  8. Ouerenro;
  9. Nedjemmout ( Mout is soft );
  10. Pypouy, probably the same one as a lady, girl of Iwy and which was réenterrée with a group of princesses of to Gournah.
