Biography
Childebert II is a king mérovingien who reigned on the Austrasie of 575 with 596 after the assassination of his father, Sigebert I {{er}}, by two slaves of Frédégonde.
Actually, his/her mother, the queen Brunehilde assumed the essence of the capacity until her death. The majority of Childebert was proclaimed first once in 585, then at the time of the Pacte of Andelot in 587. Thanks to this pact, he inherited the Burgundy and the Orléanais after being adopted by his uncle, the king Gontran.
Practitioner a policy of alliance with the Byzantine against the Lombards of Italy, Childebert carried out last forwardings austrasiennes in this area. He is also known to have supplemented the Salic law by a decree.
Childebert II died, poisoned, in 596, at 25 years, probably by his/her aunt Frédégonde . Its two sons Théodebert II and Thierry II, were entredéchirèrent for the succession, in spite of the influence of Brunehilde. The first succeeds to him in Austrasie whereas the second receives the kingdom of Burgundy and that of Orleans.
