Chichagof island

The island Chicagof (in English Chichagof Island ) is one of the islands of the Archipel Alexandre in the South-eastern of Alaska and one of the islands ABC.

Long for 80 km broad, it 120 km has a surface of 5  306 km ². Its population, with the census of 2000, was of 1  342 inhabitants. The island is located at the north of the island Baranof (also called Sitka island). It is bordered by the Détroit of Chatham in the east, the Détroit of Ice ( Icy Strait ) in the North-East, the Cross Sound in the North-West, the Golfe of Alaska in the west and the Détroit of the Danger ( Peril Strait ) in the south. Pelican, Tenakee Springs, and Elfin Cove are all located one the northern half off Chichagof Island, in the Skagway-Hoonah-Angoon Census Area. The southern half off the island included/understood the northern share off the City and Borough off Sitka. Only eight let us persons off were counted in this portion Sitka At the 2000 census. The island bears the name of the admiral Vasili Chichagov, a Russian explorer of the Arctic.
