Chibougamau
Chibougamau is a city of the Quebec (Canada), located in the administrative area of the North-of-Quebec. It counts approximately 8000 inhabitants and is the largest nonindigenous city of North-of-Quebec.
The origin of the toponym " Chibougamau" is still discussed. The Indian word contains the roots shout “shabo” (with through) and “gamaw” (lake), so that Chibougamau would mean: crossed lake of edge in edge by a river. The town of Chapais is at a distance from at least 30 minutes (41 km) and Oujebougoumou at approximately 45 minutes. There are beautiful paths for people who like the bicycle or quite simply to go.
Tourism
The majority of the tourists who go to Chibougamau make it to go to practice fishing and hunting. The festival in August is more the cultural great event to be held in North-of-Quebec during the summer. Presented to Chibougamau, in the middle of the downtown area, this popular activity attracts very nearly 5000 people daily, and this, during the 4 days of festivities. On the external scene, one can hear nearly 75 artists of the area in addition to seeing professional spectacles there (the sizeable ones, the botines smiling, Hugo Lapointe, Jonas, Annie Brocoli, Despiced Icon, Revolution Before). Within the framework of the festival, one day for the young people, a spectacle pyromusical, a tournament of volley ball and more still!
