Chiba

Chiba (千葉市, Chiba-shi in opposition to 千葉県, Chiba-ken ) is the capital of the Préfecture of Chiba, with the Japan. The city was founded January 1921 and took the statute of city indicated by the government April 1992. Population of the east city of 925,907 inhabitants for a surface of 272.08 km ² (2006).

Geography

Chiba, located at the east of the metropolis of Tōkyō, is one of principal the maritime ports of the Région of Kantō. The majority of the city are residential, although there are many factories and warehouses along the coast.

History

Chiba was during the Period Edo a city-castle which was used as stage-relay.

Not far from the city an archeological site of the Period Jōmon rises called the Kasori-kaizuka.

Air

The International airport of Narita and the International airport of Tokyo Haneda are the principal closest airports.

Rail

The urban Monorail of Chiba traverses the city. The principal stations are the Station of Chiba (Ligne of Sobu, Ligne of Sotobo, Ligne of Uchibo, principal Ligne of Sobu, Ligne of Narita, Transfert for the urban monorail of Chiba), the station of Keisei Chiba (Ligne of Keisei Chiba), and the Station of Soga, (Ligne of Keiyo, Ligne of Sotobo, Ligne of Uchibo), all in Chuo-ku.
