Chiayi

Chiayi (Chinese traditional: 嘉義市; Pinyin Hanyu: Jiāyì Shì; Pinyin Tongyong: Jiayì Shìh; EFEO: Kiayi che; Taiwanese: Ka-gī chhī) is a provincial town of the south-west of Taiwan. The city was called Kagi during the Japanese occupation and its historical Chinese name (諸羅山) drift of the indigenous word Taiwanese Tirosen.

Chiayi is the starting point of the tourist train towards the National park of Alishan.

Economy

Chiayi has an airport (嘉義航空站, code AITA: CYI).

The air base of Chiayi near to the city shelters the 4th Tactical Fighter Wing of the Air force of the Republic of China, equipped with 76 hunters F-16A/B.
