Cheylade
Cheylade is a common French, located in the department of the Cantal and the area Auvergne.
Geography
Cheylade is located on the plates of the northern slope of the Monts of the Cantal it is a village balcony which overhangs the valley of the Petite Rhue, bordered in the east by the Planèze of the Silt and in the west by that of Trizac.
History
With the Moyen-âge Cheylade which was called Chaszlada was a possession of the lords of Nonette, (close to Issoire). A church there was built and given to the Abbaye of Sauxillanges by Etienne I of Cheylade in the year 1029. This church was dedicated to Saint Leger, but left room to a new construction as from the 12th century.At the 12th century the descendants of the lords of Cheylade took the title of Comtour de Valrus , the Black Death decimated part of the population, the Guerre One hundred Year old and the Wars of religion also made pay a heavy tribute with the population local.
The seigniory and the grounds will remain under the jurisdiction of the bishop S of Clermont until in 1592. They were seized like quite national under the French revolution, the Château was completely shaven in 1884.

Church Leger Saint
Romance church built at the 12th century, altered at the 15th century and 17th century. It is built in Rhyolite (volcanic stone of the country) and is covered with Lauze S of phonolite (a volcanic Lave which emits an almost crystalline sound when it is struck). The chorus and the apse are the oldest parts, the chorus opens by a triumphal arch which is pressed on sumontées columns the chapitaux one with sheets of Acanthe. The statue of Leger Saint dates from the 15th century One can also admire in front of the furnace bridge a granite cross dating from the Moyen-âge and at the bottom a stoup and baptismal font from the 15th century
The ceiling
It is the ceiling which is especially remarqable, it completion date of the 16th century and is composed of 1386 boxes of polychrome Bois, representing Fleur S, animal , characters, the cabalistic shapes of naive invoice. One finds there:
