History

Chevillard is a commune of the mountains of the Jura, traditionally turned towards the agriculture of medium mountains, namely the breeding of Montbéliardes cows. These cows produce milk intended for the manufacture of famous Comté. Today there remains still 2 milk producers. However, one nevertheless notes the presence of a tournery on wood, established well on the even European French market, of the funeral urns. Its origin goes back to the beginning of the Middle Ages, even for some, at the end of the Roman epoch. Its inhabitants are named Savorêt S, name due to legend which told that, when the winter arrived, the inhabitants bought a bone with marrow which they made soak in their soup, which gave a tasty taste to soup, from where the name of Savorêt.
