Chevenez
Chevenez is a common Suisse of the Canton of the Jura.
Geography
Chevenez is to 6 km as the crow flies with the west-south-west of west of Porrentruy, in a dry valley of the Ajoie, with the northern foot of the the Jura. The emissive pit of the Creugenat gives rise to a temporary river.The territory of the commune extends between 491 meters, altitude of the locality, and 923 meters, on the Chaîne of Lomont, which, in the south of the locality, separates the Ajoie from the valley of the Doubs.
History
The first mention of the village appears in 814, under the name of Chaviniacus. The grounds belonged to the field of the cloister of Saint-Ursanne. In 1474, Chevenez was allotted to the Évêché of Basle.Of 1793 with 1815, Chevenez belonged to the France, in the department of the Mount-Terrible , then in that of the Haut-Rhin. Following a decision of the Congress of Vienna, in 1815, the common one was allotted to the canton Bern, like all those of the District of Porrentruy.
Since January 1st 1979, the common one belongs to the Canton of the Jura.
In the years 1764, in 1796 and 1802, the village was devastated by fires.
Economy
Chevenez is an agricultural village. The exploitations are devoted to the production of milk, the cereal culture and the breeding of horses.The secondary industry is characterized by the presence of the manufacturer of Busch pumps.
