Chevêche of the burrows
The chevêche of the burrows or owl of the burrows is an owl with the long legs adapted to the life in the meadows of North America and the southern. She lives for example the meadows of the Saskatchewan and the Alberta to the Canada, where she is threatened. She abounds however in the néotropis, where one meets it even in urban environments, typically in the parks where in the neighborhoods of the cities.
Description
This Chevêche has a gray-brown plumage piqueté of white on the top, striped of white on the belly, its color enables him to be dissimulated when it is on the ground. The male and the female are similar, but the young people have the throat of color chamois-rustIts round head is close to that of the Hibou X, its eyes and its Bec is yellow. The chevêche of the burrows is especially characterized by the length of its legs in comparison with the body; the tail is, on the other hand, rather short. It measures approximately 24 cm of the head to the tail, weighs between 125 and 175 grams and can live from 3 to 4 years.
Cry
The chevêche of the burrows is rather quiet, however it has several cries:- a “chatter” of warning
- territorial a “coo-cooo”, emitted by the males to attract the females
- a whistle which it emits when it is threatened (imitation of the Rattlesnake)
Food
The chevêche of the burrows is carnivorous, it nourishes Sauterelle S, of cricket S, Coléoptère S, Souris, or of Oiseau X.
