Chess Records
Chess Records was a American label based with Chicago in the Illinois. It was directed by two brothers: Leonard Chess and Phil Chess. Chess Records remains one of the label the S most important of the history of the Blues and played a considerable part in the Rock-and-roll and the Soul music. Indeed, Chess Records left the dozen individual S and album S considered today as showpieces of the music Rock by artists like Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley and others.
The original name of Chess Record was Aristocrat Records . The two Polish immigrants Leonard and Phil Chess bought part of the company in 1947 and when in 1950, they were sole owner, they re-elected it in Chess Records . Their first disc was I Can' T Be Satified by Muddy Waters. In 1951, they distributed Rocket 88 Jackie Brenston & his Delta Cats produces by Sam Phillips, one of the first pieces of the history of the rock'n'roll “roll.
Chess Records became famous for its recordings of Blues, Rock-and-roll and Rhythm & blues. The musicians associated with Chess Records remain Willie Dixon, Sony Boy Williamson II, Gene Ammons, Jimmy Rogers, Little Walter, The Moonglows, Etta James or Minnie Riperton. Dixon in particular was one of the characters exchange of Chess Records: it was not only one good Bassiste and a keen Compositeur but it also helped with the Orchestration pieces.
Marshall Chess, wire of Leonard, tried to go up the label, fallen in disuse in the current from the Années 1960. But the brutal death of his/her father in 1969 put a term at its company. Phil Chess sold the company with GRT, manufacturing magnetic bands. Concealment was repurchased by MCA in 1985.
