Chesnay is a common French, located in the department of the Yvelines and the area Île-de-France.

Geography

The city of Chesnay is located at 18km in the west of Paris.

The communes bordering are Vaucresson in the North-East, Versailles of the east in south-west, Rocquencourt in the west and That-Saint-Cloud in north.

The commune of Chesnay does not have station, nearest being that to Gare of Versailles - Right Bank which leads to Paris Saint Lazare.

The communal territory is crossed, in its northern part and according to a East-West axis, by the highway A13 like, in its center and according to a North-South axis, by the trunk road 321 which carry out with That-Saint-Cloud and Bougival towards north and in Versailles towards the south. It is bordered, as south-western and southern limits with Versailles, by the trunk road 186 which carries out in the direction of Saint-Germain-in-Bush hammer towards north and to Versailles towards the south and, as limits north with That-Saint-Cloud, by the secondary road D307, driving East-West axis with Vaucresson and Saint-Cloud towards the east and Bailly and Noisy-the-King towards the west.

Most of the North-East of the commune is covered by wood of the Bottom-Marshals (oaks and chestnuts).

History

The commune of Chesnay owes its name with the forests of oaks which recovered it.

Town planning

Chesnay shelters, with the residences of Parly II built at the beginning of the Années 1970, the greatest joint ownership of Europe. This joint ownership lodges more half of the inhabitants of the commune.

The Shopping mall Parly II is one of largest of Europe. It must be entirely renovated in 2008.

Religious buildings

  • the oldest Saint-Germain church, date of 1805. It is located at the north of the commune, in limit of Rocquencourt and is flanked communal cemetery. In this last, the war memorial common to the communes of Chesnay and Rocquencourt was installed.
  • the church Saint-Antoine-of-Padoue, located in limit of Versailles, not far from the place of the Law of Versailles was built in 1910 in the style Néo-gothique.
