Chersonèsos
Chersonèsos (Greek Χερσόνησος Khersonêsos , Latin Chersonesus , Slavic old man Eastern Корсунь Korsun , Russian Херсонес Khersones ) is a city of Chersonèse Taurique (today the the Crimea) close to current the Sébastopol. It was founded in worms 600 av. J. - C. by exiled Héraclée of the Bridge.
It was at second century BC under the protectorate of the king of the Bridge Mithridate VI (which reigned of -123 with -66) then after the fall of this one, it became Roman possession .
It was thereafter an important commercial place of the Byzantine Empire and in 988, it was occupied by the large-prince de Kiev, Vladimir Sviatoslavitch.
The city is currently an active site of archaeological excavations .
