History
Village populated in turn by the Gallic ones, the Celts, the Romans, it especially developed with the Moyen-âge, around its river, the Palate , which allowed the commercial exchanges with the villages and neighborhood cities. Some great dates:- in 1109 was built by Raoul VII of Beaumont-with-Maine the Benedictine abbey of Étival-in-Charnie of which there remains the vault today. This abbey was to become with the passing of years a place of important worship and culture (one made there translations of Latin works, treaties various and religious works) as well as a refuge for persecuted disturbed times which were the Inquisition and the French revolution; it will be noted that the place was also famous later for the goose breeding.
- 1348 : the Black Death decimates part of the population (Chemiré passes from 2500 to 1500 hearts).
- 1789 : The abbey is destroyed in major part by the revolutionists and the refugees perish as well as the nuns.
- Under the Empire, of rebuilding works is carried out and the abbey finds its prestige of antan, prestige raises by the visit, during its inauguration, of the Pope Pie VII in person.
- 1910 : arrival of the railroad.
- 1914 - 1918: the chemiréens leave to the face, and many are those which die there for France.
- 1939 - 1945: Second world war, the village knows the occupation and undergoes especially the little allied bombardments before the release, of young people chemiréens engage in the maquis of Étival and are finally made kill by German.
- Aujourd'hui Chemiré-in-Charnie is a very picturesque rural small village, the principal activity is the breeding of any kind, but joining again with its avicolous tradition, it is the breeding of chickens, turkeys and ducks which prevails (monopoly of the Label " chicken of Loué" ).
