The Railroad Trans-Iranian is a major project of railway construction started in 1927 and finished in 1939, under the direction of the Iranian monarch Reza Shah. The goal was to build a railway network uniting the capital Teheran with the Persian Gulf and the Caspian Sea. The Railroad Trans-Iranian was entirely built using Iranian capital. It is 1394 km long and crosses 4700 bridges and 224 tunnels.
