Chavannes-the-Large

Chavannes-the-Large is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort attached to the canton of Grandvillars. Besides the village is located at 19 km of Belfort, at the limit with Alsace and formed part of the canton of Dannemarie before 1871. Populated of 403 inhabitants in 1803, it counted 296 with the census of them 1999. The name of the village east quoted for the first time in 1291. It was germanisé in Large-Schaffnat during the Austrian domination, between 1347 and 1648.

The parish church is dedicated to Holy-Odile, sponsors Alsace.
