Chavannes-on-Moudon

Chavannes-on-Moudon is a common Suisse of the Canton of Vaud, located in the District of Moudon.

History

Located on the heights of Moudon, on Right Bank of the Broye, Chavannes-on-Moudon borders the Freibourgese border.

Built at the 13th century, the vault of the village belongs to Jean Philippe de Loys, Seigneur of Villardin. It lodges a section of soldiers Italy NS who, having crossed the Small-Saint-Bernard, will fight with the Count de Romont against the Duc of Savoy to the Castle of Street. Following a violent one fights, this troop is destroyed in the Marshes of Avaux.

14th at the 16th century, the seigniory is divided between Bern and several families: Vidames de Moudon, the noble ones of Villardens (Villardin), families of Illens, Prez and Glâne. In 1663, the family of Loys bought all the rights which the Berneses had in Chavannes. Under the Old Mode, the commune is directed by a Governor and an assembly of communiers.

Monuments

The Vault of Notre-Dame underwent various transformations until into 1994 where a restoration of the frontages, cock and of its bell-tower were carried out. She was served by the priest of the church of Morlens before the Reform.

The house of commune, built in 1797, is also used as school which belongs to a grouping with Brenles, Chesalles and Sarzens.
