Chavanatte

Chavanatte is a commune of the Territoire of Belfort belonging to the canton of Grandvillars. The village, whose activity is primarily agricultural, is located halfway between Chavannes-the-Large Suarce and at 370m above the sea level and 21km of the prefecture, Belfort. In 1803 the population was of 200 inhabitants, it did not exceed 130 inhabitants with the census of 1999.

Autrefois Chavanatte depended on the seigniory of Florimont and the parish of Suarce. It is in 1685 that the village became a stronghold, possession of the count de Reiset. The village is located in the Sundgau and common rural architecture in Alsace influences it is clear in this part of the Territory of Belfort, with the use of timber structure (Colombage S) for construction of the buildings.
