Chauray
Chauray is a common French, located in the department of the Two-Sevres and the area Poitou-Charentes.
Geography
City in the countryside, Chauray preserves carefully its rural environment, work place for the ones, and of walks for the others.
Second economic pole of the Community of Agglomeration of Niort with its large commercial signs and of performances of service, this common setting much on the quality of life of its inhabitants. Chauray accommodates companies of national scale, like Maaf Assurances, the CAMIF or the Boiron laboratories: a basin of employment which represents some 7.350 paid.
Public services: the watery Center, Centers Multi-media, the Media library, the Music school, the general sports room, the village hall, the administrative pole.
History
Chauray appears in the history into 904 in an act of the Abbey of Saint-Maixent under the name of “Vicaria Calriacinse”, but knew a human occupation well before this date.
The armorial bearings of the commune are those of Jacques Chalmot lord of Deffends, which, having embraced the reformed religion, had to emigrate in Germany.

the Temple was built in 1854 on the site of the cemetery reserved to the Protestants. In 1990, the worship having ceased being celebrated there for 20 years, the Temple has been restored to accommodate there exposures and concerts throughout the year.
the church Saint-Pierre date of XIIè century for its oldest parts: the apse and the principal door. The remainder of the building is XIXè century essentially. Sold like national good in 1793, the church remained with the abandonment until its donation with the commune in 1843. After essential repairs, the worship was restored there in 1846. The current aspect of the church results from work carried out in 1882. Its recent restoration, in 1992, did not modify it basically. However, the slates of the roof were replaced by tiles punts and the pavement of the ground was lowered, near to its level of origin, to let appear the base of the column of the apse.
