Chaumont (in Italian Chiomonte ) is a commune Italy of the Province of Turin in the Piedmont.

Its currency, in French, is “Never without you”.

Geography

Chaumont is to 750 m of altitude, on Right Bank of the Doire Ripaire, to approximately 60 km of Turin, in the high valley of Suse. Two hamlets of Ramat, on the left slope of Doire, and of Expenses (1  500  m, center of ski) are on this commune.

History

In the beginning, the inhabited center was on opposite bank of the river (prehistoric and Celtic remainders). But as of the Roman epoch, the center moves current side. Become French, Chaumont became the border between the territory of Savoy, including/understanding the Piedmont, and that of the Royaume of France which belonged to the Dauphiné and to the Écartons from Briançonnais. In 1713, the community became Savoyard, then Sardinian, with the Traité of Utrecht as the remainder of the valley.

It is the birthplace of Giorgio Of Geneys, the founder of the Sardinian marine.
