Chaumont-on-Tharonne
Chaumont-on-Tharonne is a common French, located in the department of Loir-et-Cher and the area Center. It belongs to the Canton of Lamotte-Beuvron.
Geography
Chaumont-on-Tharonne is located in the east of the department and its territory is bordering on the department close to the Loiret. It is to approximately 10 km chief town of canton, to approximately 48 km of Orleans.Crossed by the secondary road D 922 (Ferté-Saint-Aubin, Loiret with Romorantin-Lanthenay, sub-prefecture of Loir-et-Cher), it is close to an exchanger of the Autoroute has 71 which connects Orleans to Clermont-Ferrand.
History
Toponymy
- the toponym " Chaumont" has a Latin origin ( Calvo Mons ) and means Mount-Bald person (i.e. without vegetation at the top). Tharonne is a river whose name comes from the Celtic language and means " river rapide" ( onno = river).
Administrative history
- At the end of the Old Mode, Chaumont-on-Tharonne belonged to the Généralité of Orleans, with the election, Subdélégation and Grenier with salt of Beaugency. One followed there the habit of Orleans to the north of the Beuvron (enclave of the Bailliage of Beaugency), and that of Blois in the south. On the religious level, the parish belonged to the Diocèse of Orleans and of the Archidiaconé of the Sologne.
- With the Revolution, Chaumont-on-Tharonne was chief town of canton. The decree of the 3 brumaire year XI October 1802) removes Chaumont like chief town of canton and substitutes to him [[Lamotte-Beuvron].

The church
- There existed formerly two churches with Chaumont-on-Tharonne, Saint-Georges and Saint-Etienne. Saint-Georges, who was in the north of the current church, was demolished at the XVIIIe century after having been a long time unused. Both, attested in 1258, depended on the Benedictine abbey of Micy-Saint-Mesmin (commune of Saint-Pryvé-Saint-Mesmin, close to Orleans).
- the Saint-Etienne church only remains. It was entirely rebuilt in XVe century. or at the beginning of XVIe, with addition of a bell-tower and a vault seigneuriale. This church has baptismal font and a pulpit to preach XVIIe century, and a communion table out of wrought iron and a furnace bridge of XVIIIe.
The field of the Mound
It is built on a feudal Motte, mentioned in 1341. The current building dates from the XVIIIe century. It is registered under the historical munuments in 2000.
Personalities related to the commune
- Andre Tardieu (1876-1945), politician, three times President of the Council of the Third Republic between 1929 and 1932, which Maria with Chaumont-on-Tharonne with Mrs Veuve Blanchard, on June 4th, 1937.
