Chauffayer

Chauffayer is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Alpes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

History

During the second world war, Chauffayer, whose it quasi totality of the population was in favor of Resistance provided two groups of combat to the FFI, one of the ACE (ordered by Jean Jourdan teacher revoked by Vichy) the other ftp ordered by J. Fatty him also teacher. In addition, the village sheltered three Jewish families which thus survived. August 19th, 1944, the groups of resistance hung the German column which went up of Gap by the collar Bayard continued by the American column " Butler". There be a combat where two resistant perished and an inhabitant of Chauffayer.Un small memorial was inaugurated with the mayors of the common neighbors to the 60° birthday of the Release and to have the memory of the victims. The evening of August 19th, 1944, the American avant-garde arrived at Chauffayer and carried on its road towards Grenoble, parrallèlement with another column which passed by the collar of Read the High Cross.
