Chauchina

Chauchina is a municipality located in the Western part of comarque the Vega de Granada (Province of Grenade), in the south-east of Spain. Bordering on the municipalities of Fuente Vaqueros, Santa Fe, Chimeneas and Cijuela, it is crossed by the river Genil. The other localities close to chauchina are Láchar, El Jau and Pedro Ruiz. The agglomeration of chauchina is formed by the districts of Romilla, and Romilla Nueva.

Proximity of the Airport of Grenade - " Aeropuerto Internacional Federico García Lorca "- an important noise pollution for the inhabitants of Chauchina causes.

History

Oldest traces discovered on the site of " Mow catorce fanegas" with Chauchina corresponds to the intermediate period of the Neolithic era. On this site the archeologists discovered several fragments of pottery as well as a dark gray metal bracelet. The sedentarisation of the men in the area, was favoured at that time by the rich person vegetation, water abundance, and the large variety of the animal species.

Monuments

Torre de Romilla

Torre de Romilla is with approximately 500 meters of the river Genil and with a score of meters of the way of Romilla which leads to this one. It is a rectangular construction of pyramidal aspect, comprising a tower resting on three pillars, and which was used to supervise the fields neighborhood.

Peana

The peana is part of the column gilded pertaining to the Sierra del Turro , commune of Loja, intended for the central Patio of the Palais of Charles Quint (Alhambra). It is currently located close to the parish church.

Parish church

Dedicated to Jesus Christ (Santo Cristo of Humildad), the church of Chauchina was only ruins at the end of the XVIII century. Renovated on the initiative of Manual Godoy, the work of the new church was completed in 1982, after a long interruption during and after the Guerre of Spain.

Hermit of the Virgin del Espino

The virgin del Espino or del Pincho , called thus in the area of the Vega de Granada, has received devotion and mites of the inhabitants of Chauchina and the surrounding localilities for the XX century.

Festivals

  • the Féria, or popular holidays, proceed the first week of July.
  • the October 7th commemorates the festivity of the Rosaire of the virgin (Virgen del Rosario), owner of the city
  • the April 25th: the Gospel according to Marc, is walked in the fields by all the inhabitants of the city
  • the April 9th celebrates the appearance of the virgin (Virgen del Espino) with Rosario Granados Martín in 1906.
