Chaucenne

Chaucenne is a common French, located in the department of the Doubs and the area Franche-Comté.

Geography

Chaucenne is located at 12 km in the North-East of Besancon, at an altitude of 220 m, on the edges of the Lantern. Chaucenne belongs to the Franche-Comté area, of the department of Doubs, the canton of Audeux, the district of Besancon, as well as CAGB (the Community of agglomeration of Large Besancon).

History

The oldest mention of Chaucenne goes back to 1134. Its name was then " Chalcina" (Latin origin calcined " the chaux"). According to another source, the name would come from a Roman soldier, Caucennus. At the beginning of the 15th century, it becomes Chacenne, then Chaulsenne or Chaussenne at the beginning of the XVIIIe century.

  • a martyrdom of XVIe century, in the center of the cemetery
  • the traditional church of the XVIIe century, with triple nave going back to 1743. The bell of the building sounds the hours there since 1789.
  • of many fountains, whose the three principal ones, restored, date from the XVIIIe century.
  • the old water mill of the locality, the mill of Jericho, always present. It used water of the Lantern, which crosses the village on 3,5 km before being thrown in Ognon, with Chevigney.
