History
The first project of nuclear reactor called Chasnupp had been initiated in the years 1970 in collaboration with France, and the first work completed by the Saint-Gobain company. It was a project of 137 MWe which was given up by France in 1978 owing to the fact that Pakistan did not want to sign the Traité nuclear non-proliferation ( NPT ).The Pakistani maintained their project Chasnupp and the construction of a pressurized water reactor (REFERENCE MARK) was committed on December 31st, 1991 by a contract signed with the Chinese. This construction, similar to that of the Chinese engine of Qinshan-1, could be completed at the end of 1998 and the engine was coupled with the network on June 13rd, 2000.
The construction of a second pressurized water reactor of a power of 325 megawatts was launched in December 2005, also with the Chinese assistance. This engine should be operational in 2011.
- Chasnupp-1 : 310 MWe, brought into service in 2000.
- Chasnupp-2 : 325 MWe, in the course of construction, delivery envisaged in 2011.
