Charly-Oradour
Charly-Oradour is a common French located in the department of the the Moselle in Lorraine.
The common door the name of Oradour in homage to the inhabitants of common the victims of the Massacre of Oradour-on-Glane.
Geography
History
The origin of the name of the village would come from the name of the Gallic man Carilius. For certain authors, the first mentions of Chairley go back to the 12th century, for others in XVe. Towards 1544 Chairley became Charley and towards 1607 Charly. During the German annexation of 1870 with 1918, the commune took the name of Karlen as it will be the case of 1940 with 1945.Thirty-nine inhabitants expelled in the Limousin perished at the time of the massacre of Oradour on Glane, the 10 June 1944. In remembering this massacre and memory of the victims, the municipal council obtained the addition of Oradour in the name of Charly in August 1950.
