Charlotte Perriand

Charlotte Perriand (October 24th 1903 - October 27th 1999), architect and designer French.

Biography

After studies at the school of the central union of decorative arts, Charlotte Perriand makes known itself at the 24 years age with her Bar under the roof out of chrome steel and anodic aluminum which is presented to the Salon of autumn of 1927 and is acclaimed by criticism. Shortly after it begins a collaboration which will last nearly ten years with Pierre Jeanneret and Le Corbusier which integrated it in the team of its agency in 1927 by entrusting to him the responsibility for “the equipment of the dwelling”. It presents with them in 1929 to the Living room of autumn: the Equipment of the dwelling: racks, seats, tables . This furniture will be published by Thonet then more recently by Cassina. It also maintains the close links with the workshops of Jean Prouvé with Nancy but also with the architects Paul Nelson or the workshop Lagneau-Weill-Dimitrijevic (LWD).

As from the years 1940, its style was strongly influenced by a long stay in the Far East, and in particular with the Japan of 1940 to 1942.

Charlotte Perriand will take part between 1967 and 1986 in the design of the station of altitude of the Arcs in Savoy, at the same time in her architecture and installations of interiors.

  • 1946-1956 : furniture of the Hospital Franco-American memorial of Saint-Lo with Paul Nelson
  • 1952: prototype of kitchen-bar for the radiant Quoted of Marseilles with the Le Corbusier
  • 1954: interior installation of the Hotel of France with Conakry with Jean Proven and the Workshop LWD
  • 1958: prototype of the House of the Sahara for the Living room of domestic arts in front of the Large palace with Paris (destroyed) with Jean Proven and the Workshop LWD
