Charlie Haden
Charlie Haden , born the August 6th 1937 in the Missouri, is a double bass player of Jazz which plays key function in the contemporary jazz.
He played in particular with Ornette Coleman by developing a very free style. It is not a virtuoso if one compares it with his contemporary Scott LaFaro: in particular he does not play in a continuous way in the acute ones of the instrument. However, rare are those which, like Haden, manage to communicate emotion as much.
Type-setter, it founded the Liberation Music Orchestra , orchestra “engaged”, would be this only by the choice of the topics: a homage to the revolutionists (Spanish, cuban, Mexican…). It is an orchestra Libertaire made amongst other things of Carla Bley, Paul Motian, Don Cherry, Gato Barbieri, Dewey Redman, Andrew Cyrille and Roswell Rudd.
In very an other style, Beyond the Missouri Sky (1997), written in collaboration with Stalemate Metheny, emphasizes, in a peaceful environment, the velvety aspect of the double bass.
