Charlie Crist

Charles J. Crist Jr. (born the July 24th 1956 in Altoona, Pennsylvania), is a American Politician , member of the Republican party and governor of Florida since the January 2nd 2007.

Personal life

His/her father was of Greek-Cypriot origin and his mother of irlando-Scottish origin.

Crist passed its adolescence to Saint-Petersburg to Florida.

Political career

Crist began its political career in 1993 with the Senate of Florida where it represented the district of St Petersburg.

In 1998, it is presented to the election of the senator de Floride to the Congrès of the United States. It is then largely beaten by the outgoing democratic candidate Bob Graham.

In 1999, the governor Jeb Bush named it at the post of assistant secretary of the department of the businesses and the professional regulations.

In November 2000, Crist is elected police chief with the education of Florida.

In 2003, it is elected Attorney General de Floride where it is noticed for his action in favor of the respect of the Civic right , of the rights of the consumers, of the protection of the minors and environmental protection. Some however reproached him for not being intervened in the legal action tending to maintain Terri Schiavo in life.

In 2006, Crist is the republican candidate at the post of governor of Florida to succeed Jeb Bush, which cannot be represented.

The November 7th 2006, it is easily elected governor of Florida with 52,2 of the voices compared with 45,1% with the democratic candidate Jim Davis and 1,9% with max Flax, candidate of the party of the reform. It takes its functions the January 2nd 2007.

Political opinions

Abortion: He is hostile pro-life i.e. with the Voluntary interruption of pregnancy (IVG). However, it indicated that it would not change the law of Florida as regards abortion, preferring " to change the cœurs" (Interview in Tampa Platform of the 21 aoput 2006)
Adoption: He proposes a subsidy of 3000 dollars for all the families which would adopt children.
Capital punishment: The law which authorizes a jury to pronounce the capital punishment, even in the absence of unanimity defends.
Education: Partisan of the choice left to the parents as for the education system
Environment: The prohibition of oil drillings supports on the coast of Florida.
Right of the Gays: Be opposed to the Homosexual marriage but would be less hostile with the civil unions.
Firearms: Partisan of their free trade.
Immigration: Supports the proposal of the senator Mel Martinez requiring the Amnistie for the illegal immigrants.
