Charles de Dinan

Charles de Dinan lord of Montafilant & lord of Chateaubriant, in 1383, died in 1418.

Charles de Dinan was the son of Roland IV of Dinan lord of Montafilant and of Jeanne of Craon, he was the most famous member of this branch junior by the house of Dinan. Its activity extends on more than 60 years…

As of 1356 it belongs to the defenders of Rennes besieged by the duke of Lancaster. It is with the head of a body of battle at the time of the Bataille of Auray where It saves the life of Bertrand Of Guesclin. In 1367 it contributes to the payment of the ransom of the future Connétable of France. Although faithful of the House of Blois, in 1379 it takes part in the league of the Breton lords for the recall of the duke Jean IV of Brittany and it will accommodate it with Saint Malo at the time of its return of England.

In 1381 it is pilot with the Traité of Guérande between the France and the duke of Brittany. In 1386 Charles de Dinan intervened in the legal duel and the lawsuit which opposes his/her beautiful Robert brother of Beaumanoir and Pierre of Tournemine lord of Hunaudaye. One also finds it like referee in the conflict between the duke of Brittany and Olivier de Clisson in 1391. Finally he is the ambassador of the duke of Brittany near the duke of Burgundy in 1408

In 1383 it had inherited the seigniory of Châteaubriant of the chief of its grandmother Thomasse de Châteaubriant marries of Roland III of Dinan Montafilant

In consequence of its personal inheritance and of its alliances Charles de Dinan had: Montafilant, Chateaubriant, Guildo Hardouinais, Hugetières in Bath, Runefau in Tréguier, Bodister as a Leon Plougaznou, Candé, the Roche-sur-Yon, Chantoceaux.

Charles de Dinan contracted four marriages but it did not have a child of its first two wives nor fourth:

1) Jeanne d' Ancenis

2) Widowed constancy of Coëtlan of Even of the Insane one

3) Jeanne de Beaumanoir girl of Jean de Beaumanoir and Marguerite of Rohan.

  • Henri de Dinan lord of Hardouinais died in 1403 without posterity
  • Roland V of Dinan lord of Montafilant died in 1419 without posterity.
  • Robert de Dinan which succeeds his/her brother and dies in 1429 without posterity
  • Bertrand de Dinan Chambellan of Brittany
  • Jacques de Dinan Maréchal of Brittany

4) Jeanne Raguenel died in 1448.
