Charles Vilain XIIII

The Viscount Charles Ghislain Guillaume Vilain XIIII (Brussels May 15th 1803 - Leuth November 16th 1878) is a Belgian Politician , of catholic tendency.

At the end of the Years 1820, it militated against the policy of William of Orange. It defended in particular the freedom of teaching.

The August 25th 1830, it assisted with the representation of the Dumb woman of Portici which started riots in Brussels. With the interval, it worried near the Minister of Interior Department Pierre van Gobbelschroy, also present, of the risk of disorders.

He was member of the National congress (1831) and there defended the Monocaméralisme and the Freedom of press. He voted for the candidature of Auguste de Leuchtenberg for the throne of Belgium, then was among the deputies who proposed Léopold of Saxony-Cobourg-Gotha. He voted against the Traité of the XVIII articles.

He was then ambassador near the the Holy See and other States Italy NS (1832 - 1834 and 1835 - 1839). He was then vice-president of the Chambre (1843 - 1847 and 1852 - 1855) and Foreign Minister (1855 - 1857). At this station, it defended freedom of press against the pressures of Napoleon III and pushed back the assumption to modify the Belgian Constitution to restrict it. There remained still a long time appointed.
