Charles VII (Karl Sverkersson), was king de Suède of 1161 with 1167.

Karl Sverkersson had been proclaimed king by Östgötar (inhabitants of the province of Östergötland) as of 1152. He becomes then king of the whole of the Götaland with died of his father in 1156. After being itself removed from the Magnus applicant he is finally recognized by all the country in 1161. Karl Sverkersson rests on the Denmark and marries Kristina Stigdotter, girl of Stig Hvidtaledhr and the princess Margareta, niece of Valdermar {{Ier}}, which is led in Sweden by the Jarl Guthorm in 1163.

It made the war with the inhabitants of the Ingrie and of the Estonia to force them to embrace the Christianisme, many churches and monasteries founded which it equipped richly. It obtained the erection of the episcopal see of Uppsala like archbishop's palace in 1164 by the Pope Alexandre III. Its first holder, Stephanus, a monk cistercian of Alvastra, are crowned with Sens. This measurement affirms the ecclesiastical independence of the country and reinforces its unit because it is at that time that the king replaces his simple title of Rex Svecie by that of Rex Sveorum and Gothorum .

However the capacity of the clergy having taken excessive increases, it was going to put a term at it, when it was assassinated the April 12th 1167 with Visingsö at the instigation of the son of Eric the Saint, Knut Erikson, suddenly returned of a three years exile in Norway.
