Charles VIII of France
Charles VIII of France or Gracious Charles VIII, born the June 30th 1470 with the Castle of Amboise, dead the April 7th 1498 at the same place, wire of Louis XI and Charlotte of Savoy, was king de France of 1483 with 1498.
Single surviving among five wire of Louis XI, it is the seventh and last king of the direct succession of the connects of Valois of the dynasty capétienne.
Regency
At 13 years, Charles VIII goes up on the throne having had of another education only the reading of the tales of chivalry. He is always minor and in accordance with the desire of his father, he accepts the supervision of his older sister, Anne of France, 23 years old, known as Anne de Beaujeu, after his marriage with Pierre de Bourbon, lord de Beaujeu.
The government of the regents causes a rebellion of the princes taken along by Louis II of Orleans, the future Louis XII, which in order to withdraw the king from his tutors undertakes the insane Guerre. July 28th 1488, Louis of Orleans east makes captive with the Bataille of Saint-Aubin-of-Cormier the. Imprisoned during three years, it was pardoned in 1491.
Reign personal
In the west, Anne of Brittany, duchess of Brittany, is married by procuration with Maximilien de Habsbourg. Charles, itself promised in marriage to Marguerite of Austria, girl of Maximilien, undertakes long negotiations and makes the seat of Rennes to be able to marry Anne, which it obtains the December 6th 1491 with the Château of Langeais. He thus brings closer to France this important duchy, at the price of the enmity of the future emperor. None of the six children resulting from his union with Anne from Brittany survived.Young person and ambitious, it wanted to conquer the Royaume of Naples, taking advantage of rights that the last princes of the house of Anjou had bequeathed to its family. With died of the king Ferdinand Ier of Naples, in 1494, Charles VIII takes the title of king de Naples and Jerusalem and penetrates in Italy. It is the beginning of the first war of Italy (1494-1497). Without any resistance, the French enter to Florence in November and Rome in December. They are with Naples in February 1495. However, in March, under the impulse of Ferdinand II of Aragon and of the Pope Alexandre VI, constitutes the Ligue of Venice, a nearly general alliance against France.
The re-entry in France of Charles VIII is perilous. He however manages to cross the Apennin, and gaining accuracy a victory with the Bataille of Fornoue, he succeeds in escaping his enemies. Louis of Orleans evacuates Novare and gives up the Duché of Milan. Beginning 1497, the remained French Army with Naples capitulates to the Spanish captain Gonzalve de Cordoue, said the Large Captain.
Charles VIII dies, at 28 years, the April 7th 1498 with the Château of Amboise, after having violently run up against of his face a stone lintel placed too low. After its death, the succession returns to his/her cousin Louis XII, which wife also her widow, Anne of Brittany.
