Charles Tournemire is a Organiste, a improviser and a Compositeur French born with Bordeaux the January 22nd 1870 and died with Arcachon the November 4th 1939.
Biography
Tournemire was the youngest pupil of César Franck and replaced Gabriel Pierné (1863-1937) at the post of organist to the church Holy-Clotilde in Paris. It was titular of 1898 with its death in 1939.Famous organist for his improvisations, its works for Orgue are many, serious and respect the catholic Liturgie, in particular through its collection, the Mystical Organ (constituted of the 51 masses of the catholic liturgical year). It also composed of the melodies, of the parts for piano, the chamber music, eight Symphonie S and several operas and Oratorio S. The latter are new, alone exist the manuscripts preserved at the National library of France.
Having known the beginnings of the phonographic recording, Charles Tournemire recorded towards 1930 - 1931 in concert five improvisations out of 78 lathes. This exceptional testimony of art improvisatoire was immortalisé by Maurice Duruflé, one of its more famous pupils, who, patiently, starting from these discs, reconstituted and transcribed in partition these masterpieces, between 1956 and 1958:

- Improvisation on the Te Deum;
- Imagination-Improvisation on the Ave husbands stella;
- Choral-Improvisation on the Victimae paschali laudes.

Royalties
- With the Canada and in the countries observing a time of 50 years protection postmortem, works of Tournemire fell into the Public domain on January 1st 1990.
- With the the United States, the works of Tournemire published before 1923 fell into the Public domain; those published starting from 1923 (in theory) are protected until January 1st 2010.
- In the European Union and the countries observing a time of 70 years protection postmortem , works of Tournemire is protected until January 1st 2010.
- However in France, the works of Tournemire published before 1921 will remain protected until October 2024; those published of 1921 with 1947 will be to it until May 2018.
