Charles Tellier

Louis Abel Charles Tellier born the June 19th 1828 with Amiens (France), it dies in the total destitution in 1913 with Paris (France). Engineer French, in 1876 it is at the origin of work on two new bodies, the methyl ether and the Triméthylamine. It created with Auteuil in 1869, the first refrigerating factory in the world for the conservation of the meats and the foodstuffs by mechanic refrigeration.

Biography

Wire of an industrialist of the spinning mill founded in Condé-sur-Noireau in Normandy, ruined by the revolution of 1848, he studies in faculty ammonia, a manure concentrated then the domestic production of the compressed air. The project on the domestic production of the compressed air is presented to the town of Paris, but the baron Hausmann whom no daring idea frightens gives him this council: the ice misses in Paris when the winters are hot, you should occupy you to manufacture it artificially. It should be said that at the time, to preserve the food products, one filled large a puit called refrigerator of two hundred tipcarts of snow and ice. This conservation inherited the Romans was random.

In 1856 Charles Tellier is based on work of laboratory of Faraday which obtains a temperature of -11 degrees and of Thilorien which by liquefaction will manage to lower the temperature to -79 degrees. Two years later, it created its first refrigerating machine with gas circulation Ammonia liquefied, for the refrigeration of domestic and industrial use. This invention which upsets the modern world, is constantly improved and in 1865, it builds a machine with mechanical compression with liquid gas and installs it in the factory of the Master-chocolate seller Meunier.

Charles Tellier discovered and developed the method of the cooling by cascades, which makes a fluid easily liquefiable, like sulfur dioxide, used to determine the liquefaction of another liquid more difficult to liquefy, like carbon dioxide. This principle will be used and rationalized twenty years later.

Charles Tellier dies in 1913 in greatest poverty, and little before disappearing, he will say to one his close relations: the convoy of the poor awaits me, but this final fate of the workers does not frighten me…
