Charles Simon Catel is a type-setter and French pedagog born with the Eagle (Orne) the June 10th 1773 and died in Paris the November 29th 1830.

Biography

Catel studied in Paris at the royal School of Song. He was chief assisting of François-Joseph Gossec near the orchestra of the National guard in 1790. Member of the Institute, it composed with this Master of beautiful pieces of military Musique for the ceremonies of the Republic, inter alia the Anthem in the Victoire (words of Pounce-Denis Écouchard-Lebrun). He was named professor of harmony to the Academy as of creation, but he was relieved in 1814. He had inter alia as raises with the academy celebrates it and eccentric harpist Nicolas Bochsa who, thanks to his teaching, obtained a first price of harmony in 1808.

There is of him a Traité of harmony (1802); several dramatic compositions (with the Large-Opera: Sémiramis , the Bayadères ; with the Op3era Comique: the Artists by occasion , the Inn of Bagnères , 1807; Wallace , 1817); symphonies, quartets, etc
