Sir Charles Saunders , KB (towards 1715 - December 7th 1775), was Admiral in the British Royal Marine during the Guerre Seven Year old, and later First Lord of Admiralty.

It ordered the fleet which brought James Wolfe to Quebec in 1759. It definitively ensured the victory after the death of the general, with the Bataille of the Plains of Abraham.

Of 1750 with 1754, it was member of the Parliament port of Plymouth Devon (the greatest base of Royal Navy) and represented then Hedon, a borough of the Yorkshire, 1754 until its death.

The course Saunders, on the coast of Otago in New Zealand, was thus called in its honor by the captain James Cook, who had been used under Saunders for the Canada.
