Charles River

The Charles River is a river a not very important length, which separates the communes from Boston (left bank), of Cambridge and Charlestown (Right Bank). Its source is with 129 kilometers of its estuary with Echo Lake (Hopkinton. It crosses 58 cities of the east of the state of the Massachusetts, before being thrown in the Port of Boston and the Atlantic Ocean. Its catchment area is very urbanized and extends on 798 km ². The level of pollution of its water is the subject of a very detailed attention on behalf of the authorities. Several university campuses occupy these two banks: Harvard, Boston University, Brandeis University and the prestigious Massachusetts Institute off Technology.

History
