Charles Nisard

Marie-Léonard Charles Nisard , born with the Châtillon-on-Seine the January 10th 1808 and dead the July 16th 1890, is a French philologist, also editor and translator of Latin texts and historian of the literature.
Under-secretary with the Ministère of the Police force in the Années 1850, it is charged to count and censure the literature of Colportage, which enables him to constitute an important collection of popular books. He thus produces the first historical study on the subject like several studies on the vocabulary of the Parisian Argot and his etymology. He is elected member of the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1875.
Charles Nisard is the brother of the academician Désiré Nisard.
