Charles Mellin
Charles Mellin is a Lorraine painter born towards 1597 with Nancy, left for Italy towards the age 20 years and died the September 21st 1649 with Rome without descendant nor heir.
He worked with Simon Vouet in Rome.
Its works decorated Saint-Louis-of-French, the Trinity-of-Mounts, the Abbaye of the Mount-Cassin.
It is buried with Saint-Nicolas-of-Lorraine with Rome.

- the Portrait of Alessandro Borro , traditionally allotted to Charles Mellin, is for Pierre Rosenberg of another hand, and perhaps of an Italian artist.
Confusion with other painters is all the more large as at the time many not very scrupulous collectors made carry the prestigious signature of Nicolas Poussin to fabrics which they had ordered from Charles Mellin. Others, like Muti, family of Roman aristocrats, signed of their own name the works carried out by Mellin, before offering them to the pope as a sign of flattery. If it is added that Charles Mellin was made call Charles the Lorraine one (Carlo Lorenese), with the risk to see itself confusing with famous Claude Gellée (Claudio Lorenese) of the same pseudonym…
