Charles Macklin

Charles Macklin (1697? - 1797) Actor and Dramatic author born in Northern Ireland. It was one of the most famous actors of its time, as shining in the tragic kind as in the comic kind. He quarreled with another actor and killed it. He was considered, but discharged and died centenary. He wrote, among other comedies “Coils in the Mode” (1759) and “The man off the world” (1781), his only parts to have been printed. He was the creator of Sir Pertinax Macsycophant, a famous burlesque character.
