Charles Luc Paulin Clement Borrelli

Charles Luc Paulin Clement Borrelli , lieutenant-general, born with Villefort (Lozere), in 1771, general French.

He accepted, like wire of active citizen, a patent of second lieutenant for the hussards of the L égion of the Alps, since 14th regiment of hunters with horse, made several campaigns in the Vendée, under the orders of Hoche.

Wounded several times, and honourably quoted in the bulletins of the army, it was named colonel of staff and envoy in 1808 in Spain; he was already officer of the Légion of honor after Friedland, he was named adjudant-commander, the prince Murat appointed it assistant manager of general staff and sent it to receive the Portuguese army which entered in Spain by Ciudad-Rodrigo. It took share with the Siège of Madrid, and was named governor of this city. It filled breadths functions of assistant manager of staff of the cavalry to the Campagne of Russia, where it was distinguished with the engagements from Witepsk, Smolensk, Borodino, and was named brigadier general to Moskowa, and chief of general staff in the place of the general Belliard. It entered one of the first to Moscow following the Cosaque S. Murat quoted it like one of most skilful and the most honest officers of the army.

In 1813, he was chief of staff of the marshal Saint-Cyr military school, who ordered in Saxony the 14th body. The September 18th, it completely destroyed an enemy column of 2.000 men. It was in Dresden when this city capitulated, and shared the fate of the marshal Gouvion-Saint-Cyr, who quoted it with the greatest praise. Rejoined with the Bourbon S in 1814, there remained to them faithful until the last moment, and fulfills during the Hundred Days the functions of chief of staff of the national guard of Paris. Napoleon i named it lieutenant-general; but this nomination was not confirmed by Louis XVIII.

In 1823, it made the Campagne of Spain as chief of staff of the marshal Molitor, and was created large Officer of the Legion of Honor.

After the Revolution of 1830, it was reinstated in its rank of lieutenant-general (November 20th 1831). It was employed several times as general inspector of cavalry.

Died in September 1849, 78 years old.

It is the colonel Charles-Hyacinthe-Jules Borrelli, only sons of the Borrelli general, who attacked intrepidly and taken the glasses the St. Lawrence, to the Siège of Antwerp, with the head of pomegranates of the 65e of line. Colonel Borelli was promoted with the Brigadier general rank of the April 26th 1846.

The general Viscount of Borrelli was maternal uncle of Mr. Odilon Barrot, president of the Council of Ministers, in 1849.
