Charles Lenormant
Charles Lenormant , born with Paris on June 1st 1802 and died in Athens the November 22nd 1859, is a Archéologue, Egyptologist and Numismate French.
Inspector of the Art schools, it accompanies in 1828 Jean-François Champollion in his voyage in Egypt. He becomes then Bibliothécaire with the Bibliothèque of the Arsenal then Conservateur - assistant of the Cabinet of the medals of the National library of France. Conservative of the Department of Printed in 1832, it is elected member of the Académie of the inscriptions and the humanities in 1839 and, the following year, takes the direction of the Cabinet of the medals, in succession of the Egyptologist Antoine Jean Letronne. It also succeeds this last with the Chaire of Archéologie of the Collège de France in 1849.
