Charles Antoine Lemaire (November 1st 1800 - June 1871), Botanist and writer French.
Biography
He began his career as traditional professor of Littérature at the university of Paris where he was discovered a passion for the Botanique.Become specialist in the Cactaceae, he wrote many books on this topic and named many kinds and species like the Schlumbergera .
The kind Lemaireocereus and the Melocactus lemairei were named in its honor.
It began its career of botanist in Paris in 1835, or it published Jardin Florist and the universal Horticulturist .
In 1845, it leaves in Belgium to publish Flore of the Greenhouses and the Gardens of Europe then the horticultural illustration . It wished to improve the illustration of the plants but its exhaustive Monographie on the family of Cactaceae: descriptive Iconographie of Cactées , originally published 1841 with 1847 and republished in 1993 remained unfinished.
