Charles Joseph Auriol

Charles Joseph Auriol (born the November 13rd 1778 with Geneva - died the May 25th 1834 with Choully, commune of Satigny, close to Geneva) was a Swiss painter of the beginning of the 19th century, which was the pupil in Suisse of Pierre Louis Of Bank, then with Paris of François-Andre Vincent, David and Girodet. It returned to Geneva in 1810 and passed the end of its life there.

Danielle Buyssens (see external bond) note romanticism of its compositions to the effects of fogs. His/her friend the painter Wolfgang Adam Toepffer had called it “the painter of the fogs”.

Genealogy

Charles Joseph Auriol was the son of Pierre Élisé d' Auriol, colonel with the service of the king of Sardinia, (1771 - 1790) and of Anne Elisabeth Urrettini de Turtin.

In July 1811, Charles Joseph Auriol marries Anne Jeanne Marguerite Dunant. Their children

  • Philippe Élisé born on April 8th, 1814, deceased in 1866.
  • Louis Philippe Gustave born on August 31st, 1816 died in 1882.
